IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR YOUR SAFETY
Trident Trailers have 2 trailer servicing centres
to help you keep you and your trailer safe.
Servicing and repairs carried out to all types of
trailers up to 3500kg Gross including:
- Horse trailers
- Boat trailers
- Commercial / Plant trailers
- Car transporters and Motor cycle trailers
- Camping trailers
- Caravans
Frequency of Servicing and Checks for all Trailers
and car trailers, camping trailers, car transporters,
flat bed trailers, goods trailers, plant trailers,
van trailers, motorcycle and bicycle trailers and
horse, pony and livestock trailers is very important.
An un-serviced trailer can lead to loss in
insurance claims or prosecution by the Law.
Frequency of Servicing and checks
This depends on trailer type and frequency of use,
but a typical outline guide is as follows:
- Before each journey - particular checks are necessary
for safety reasons and is the responsibility of
the trailer operator.
- After the first 600 miles (1000 km) - for new
trailers or if new brake linings have been fitted.
- Every 3000 miles (5000 km) - for industrial /
commercial trailers with intensive usage, by type
of application or mileage towed, including boat
trailers that have been immersed in water.
- Every 6000 miles (10,000 km) - for leisure trailers
and caravans - service annually.
- When you have your trailer serviced with Trident
Trailers we enter your trailer details into our
database and send you an annual reminder for your
next trailer service.
A Service carried out by Trident Trailers
includes the following checks.
FULL TRIDENT TRAILERS SERVICE PROCEDURE:
- Jack up and make safe with axle stands. All wheels
off the ground plus jockey wheel
- Remove road wheels and check condition of tyres
and steel rims. (Spare included) Check tyre pressures.
- Remove hubs, strip out bearings and seals and
check condition.
- Check brake shoes and auto reverse mechanism.
- Check brake drum for damage, scoring etc.
- Check wheel studs. Re-grease and re-assemble.
- Check Bowden cables (or rod mechanisms) for self
return. (If not self return check for seized or
damaged cables or rods or incorrectly adjusted cables
or rods causing mechanisms not to return to correct
position.)
- Check all Clevis pins etc. for wear and missing
split pins and repair as necessar
- Re-adjust brakes and cables as required for correct
tolerances and operation compensator should run
parallel to axle line.
- Check coupling, draw bar bushes for wear (lift
in draw tube shaft), rubber bellows for spits etc.
Breakaway cable and damper operation. Grease as
required.
- Remove jockey wheel assembly and strip out inner
shaft, clean and re-grease. Inspect rubber tyred
wheel for wear etc.
- Replace assembly ensuring clamp pad is in place
(if fitted.)
- Check operation of all lights, condition and security
of wiring and plug etc.
- Rectify if necessary.
- Check Indespension units, coil and leaf springs
for damage etc. (Paying special attention to spring
hangers and bolts.)
- Bodywork. Check that all fasteners are secure
and firmly fitted in the correct places.
- Check security and condition of mud guards and
mountings etc.
- Check operation of corner body jacks or props.
- Check operating shafts, clamps and linkages for
wear and re-grease as required.
- Other observations to record.
